Seven movies based on Wizard of Oz in production

At least one Oz-based movie has wrapped up production, called The Witches of Oz (see trailer here).  At the same time, there are at least four other Oz-related movies in planning, and none of them seem to have any interest in fidelity to the books. An article at Just Press Play has more details about the works in progress, which include films directed by Sam Raimi and Drew Barrymore.  So far the best adaptation of an Oz book has been the mid 80s Return to Oz — but that’s not saying all that much.  As much as I love the classic film, I’d love to see a film really honor the fantasy that was the Oz series (and yes, there was a series, not just one!)

This one looks like it will appeal to today’s audience. I heard about one that Drew Barrymore was allegedly involved in and that is the one I am interested in seeing.
