It’s A Major Award…

I was excited when Lit Addicted Brit passed this award along to me.  I realize it’s making the rounds to lots of people, but hey, there are a lot of us bloggers out there.  I’ve been working on my blog for almost three months now and still feeling pretty unknown.  So seeing my blog named on someone else’s site made me very happy. Thanks!

Thanks also to those of you who are email subscribers.  With a WordPress blog we don’t get the cool-looking (and very easy to use) Google follower graphic.  So email sign-ups are much appreciated.

Here are the rules of the award:

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.

2. Share 7 things about yourself.

3. Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic for whatever reason!

4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked and let them know about the award.

First, 7 things about me:

1)      My husband and I have two black cats, both rescue cats.  Harley is named for the bikers (their bikes I mean) who used to live below us, and Sammy is named for Samwise Gamgee, because he was meant to be a loyal companion to Harley (who didn’t really want a companion but got one anyway).

2)      We’ve decided not to have kids. The cats are enough.

3)      Favorite place visited: Scotland.  Second favorite: Greece.  I’m grateful for the places I’ve seen but dying to travel more.

4)      I collect antique children’s books, mostly from the Oz series.  They were published between 1900 and 1920.  The illustrations are so beautiful and it makes me happy to look at them.

5)      I have an English degree and a law degree.   Unfortunately I realized halfway through law school I never want to be a lawyer.

6)      I once met Steven Tyler from Aerosmith (maybe my all-time favorite band) in the used bookstore where I worked in college.  He was shopping for new-age books.  I met Larry McMurtry at that same bookstore.  He was a little less exciting.

7)      I  worked fast food in high school (Wendy’s) and kind of wish everyone had to at some point.  It was not the worst job I’ve had.

And 15 blogs I’m passing this on to:

1)      What Red Read

2)      The Broke and the Bookish

3)      ProSe

4)      Dead White Guys: An Irreverent Guide to Classic Literature

5)      Fingers and Prose

6)      Giraffe Days

7)      Starmetal Oak Book Blog

8)      Bippity Boppity Book

9)      Roof Beam Reader

10)   On a Pale Star

11)   Tangled Up In Blue

12)   Her Book Self

13)   Things Mean a Lot

14)   Little Red Reviewer

15)  Too Many Books, Too Little Time

Congrats on the award and thanks for passing it onto me as well 🙂 I know it’s kind of like a blog chain letter, but it still made me happy!

Congratulations! I love the random facts you shared – awesome that you’ve rescued cats and met famous people in a bookstore! And I agree, everyone should work in a service industry at some point in their life to give them perspective and treat others with more respect (can’t stand rude people that yell at clerks, cashiers, waitstaff, etc.)

And thank you so much for including me in the award! I’m really humbled and flattered!

Though I’m not an email subscriber, I have added your blog to my blogroll and follow your posts that way. I’ve really been enjoying your writing. Keep up the great work!

Thanks so much! I can’t take credit for rescuing cats, just for picking them out — and that wasn’t so hard! Thanks for following!

    You met Steven Tyler?

    i’mnotworthy i’mnotworthy i’mnotworthy!

I was going nuts over the fact that you met Steven Tyler, only 10 minutes later did I realize you’d passed the award onto my blog. AND you provided me with 14 other blogs I might not know about to follow! Thank you very much!

I also worked at Wendy’s while I was in school, and it was by far, not the worst job I ever had.

Meeting Steven Tyler was awesome even though I was a drooling idiot — I’m a little bummed to hear he’ll be judging on American Idol, ugh.

Yay, fellow Wendy’s employee! We are like soulmates…

    Thanks for thinking of me!

Where do you find the old Wizard of Oz books?

I wouldn’t even recognise Steven Tyler if he walked into a shop! Um, I don’t know who Larry Mc-whatsit is…!

You can sometimes get the old Oz books in used bookstores, but I get the nicer ones at an Antiquarian Book Fair they hold every year around here. The first editions are hard to find (and pay for) but you can still get some really pretty old ones that aren’t too expensive.

Steven Tyler is pretty distinctive — and at the time looked just like he does on stage. It was crazy seeing a big rock star in a little used book store. Larry McMurtry wrote Lonesome Dove which is a fantastic book.

Congrats! I remember feeling elated when I received the award too. Like you I’ve been blogging for 3 months too.

I’ve got an English degree, and am thinking about going into Law!!! Oh dear. Must think about it some more 🙂

Well, being a lawyer in your neck of the woods might be a different kind of profession than it is here — but I’m always happy to chat about it. Good luck!
