This week’s Top Ten topic, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, is our Fall TBR List. I like to post a reading list every quarter, as a way of looking at what challenges I still have open, what I have on my library list, and books I’ve already purchased that I haven’t read.
For the Read Harder 2018 challenge:
- A book of social science: Awkward by Ty Tashiro
- An essay anthology: Nasty Women ed. by Samhita Mukhopadhyay
- An assigned book you hated or never finished: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
For the TBR Pile Challenge:
- An Untamed State by Roxane Gay
- The End of the Affair by Graham Greene
- The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai
From my library holds list:
- The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner
- The Alice Network by Kate Quinn
From NetGalley:
- Transcription by Kate Atkinson
- The Best Bad Things by Katrina Carrasco
And for Halloween, my R.I.P. XIII reads:
- Strange Practice by Vivien Shaw
- Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
- Circe by Madeline Miller
If I can get through all these by the end of the year, I’ll be feeling pretty good. Of course I never stick to these lists completely – they are more of a roadmap.
What’s on your fall reading list?
Good luck with Jane Eyre. Personally, I’ve always struggled to read that one, and I read a lot of classics! I can thoroughly recommend Circe – I really hope that you enjoy it! It’s fast become one of my favourite books of all time!

I do not dare to put ANY books on my fall TBR list because my existing TBR is too overwhelming. But I did add Circe for the upcoming Witch Week – and i’ve almost finished it. Recommended!
I’m glad to hear you recommend Circe! Most of the books on this list have been on my TBR for a while, so I’m not adding so much as prioritizing. Looking forward to Witch Week!
Just wanted to stop by and check out your TBR :). You’ve got a great list too! Six of Crows I LOVE!! Be prepared to run out and grab Crooked Kingdom right away. I also want to check out Circe and The Alice Network. I’ve been hearing great things about Madeleine Miller.
I’m really looking forward to Circe and I’m glad to hear you loved Six of Crows! I’ve heard so many good things.
Looks like some great reads for fall. Enjoy!
This is a great selection! Circe and An Untamed State are both fantastic! I also thought The Mars Room was really good though not what I had been expecting it to be! Enjoy! 😊
I’m glad to hear you liked those books! I’m a little nervous about Untamed State, because it involves captivity and maybe torture.
An Untamed State is pretty violent and brutal at times, not the whole way through but it does have some very distressing scenes just so you’re forewarned and prepared! 🙂
Impressive list–I like the categories. Interesting that Jane Eyre is on the read harder list 🙂 Frankly, I was disappointed in The End of the Affair–a rare case where good writing just couldn’t make the premise work for me.
Happy Fall Reading.
Well, it’s on my Read Harder list because it’s a book I hated/didn’t finish. Sorry to hear you didn’t like Affair. Is there another classic you’d suggest?
I am reading a spoof of Jane Eyre right now and wondering if I should reread the original. Hmm. Thanks for visiting my blog.
If you decide to reread, let me know! We could collaborate.
